A great old song tells us that love and marriage are so inextricably linked that you “can’t have one without the other.”
(Even those who disagree with that assertion might still love hearing it from Ol’ Blue Eyes, though, right?).
That inextricably linked argument has been made repeatedly about the common standards, as well. Good standards—common or otherwise—need great curriculum and great professional development and assessments to bring them to life, educators argue. This blog post by Hayes Mizell lays out the case for strong p.d. on the common standards. Mr. Mizell is a distinguished senior fellow with the National Staff Development Council, which focuses on professional development.
Whether states and districts have the capacity to develop all the required parts well enough to enable good standards to make a difference: That’s the question, yes?
