Dowan McNair-Lee, the teacher Education Week profiled as she taught the common standards in English/language arts in her 8th grade classroom, has been honored for effective teaching.
In an announcement today, the District of Columbia public schools named Ms. McNair-Lee as one of 30 recipients of its Rubenstein award. Twenty of the recipients are teachers who were rated “highly effective” last school year. Three are school support staff, and seven are principals or assistant principals.
The prizewinners, who each receive $5,000, were nominated by community members and chosen by district central-office staff. They will be formally honored at a Nov. 4 ceremony at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
