The enthusiasm for charter schools on Capitol Hill isn’t just for tots. There’s a lot of momentum behind getting more charter secondary schools into the act as well.
Check out yesterday’s testimony before the U.S. House Education & Labor Committee of John B. King Jr., who founded the Uncommon Schools network. He talks about the success of Roxbury Prep Charter School, which I profiled earlier this year. The school serves low-income middle school students in Boston, sending them on in impressive numbers to college-prep high schools and then to college.
Also check out the testimony of Steve Barr, the founder of Green Dot Schools, which runs 17 charter high schools in Los Angeles. My colleague, Lesli Maxwell, reports on Barr’s testimony in a blog post over at Politics K-12, and profiled him and his work a couple years ago.
