The Woodburn School District in Woodburn, Ore., plans to use $275,000 in stimulus funds to provide technology for English-language learners and special education students, according to a story published in the Woodburn Independent this week.
The grant is part of $650 million in funds for education technology authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The story said it will be used to pay for computers, printers, and wireless capabilities for four middle school classrooms.
The Working Group on ELL Policy, a group of researchers who specialize in ELLs, has been tracking how school districts are using stimulus funds for ELLs. Back in May, I wrote about four urban school districts that had plans to apply some of their stimulus funds to the education of such students. But this story from Woodburn, Ore., is the only example of a district going this route that I’ve come across since May. If any of you know of other examples, hit the comment button.
