Everywhere I turn, it seems, someone is talking about SIOP, which stands for the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol model for educating English-language learners. It’s a set of strategies, such as using visuals and facilitating interaction between students, for adapting academic content for ELLs.

Next Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m. Eastern time, the National Clearinghouse for English Language Acquisition is hosting a free Webinar on the model. Jen Himmel, a research associate at the Center for Applied Linguistics will give an overview of the strategies.
