How Writing an Essay Is Like Making a Hamburger (Video)

In rural Jackson County in West Virginia, the school district has launched a new comprehensive literacy strategy to help its students organize their writing. Employing a hamburger as a graphic organizer, it provides a visual guide for creating an essay. Fourth grade student Briana Sotomayor used this method while writing a winning essay for the district’s drug-and-alcohol-prevention competition. Here, she explains the model.
