Rural educators will gather in Nashville next week to discuss the implementation of the Common Core State Standards and what it means for their schools.
The gathering is being hosted by the Rural Education Network, which grew out of a rural education summit organized last year by the State Collaborative on Reforming Education. The network was formed in March, and this marks its first in-person meeting.
The June 14 meeting is intended to inform participants on the implementation of the common core and gather feedback on the unique challenges and opportunities rural districts face.
“As states continue the important work of implementing the common core standards, learning from our neighbors about challenges and innovative solutions will be crucial to ensuring that schools and districts have the supports they need to effectively implement the new standards—particularly in our rural communities,” said David Cook, director of Innovation and Partner Engagement for the Kentucky Department of Education, in an article on the Rural School and Community Trust Web site. The Rural Trust is a founding member of the network.
