Homecoming Queen Transforms Into Football Hero

It's not every day that a school's homecoming queen accepts her award in a football uniform.

Brianna Amat isn't most girls.

Amat, an 18-year-old senior at Pinckney Community High School (Mich.), was named homecoming queen of her school this past Friday night.

The only catch? She's also the kicker for the high school football team.

And shortly after being named homecoming queen, she booted home a game-winning 31-yard field goal to give her team a 9-7 edge over Grand Blanc High School.

Amat, a soccer player since she was 3 years old, tried out for the school's football team after being urged by her soccer coach, according to the New York Times.

Now, you might expect a group of male high school football players to give a female kicker some grief. Instead, after Amat made the team, her teammates were "so accepting" of her, as if she'd "always been their teammate," she told the Times.

That teammate loyalty showed its true colors this past weekend.

Going into halftime this past Friday night, Amat's mind couldn't have been further from homecoming festivities. She had missed an extra point in the first half, leaving her team up only 6-0.

"I don't think I went into homecoming mode," she said to the Times. "I just wanted to get back into the locker room and be with the team."

In fact, after Amat was named homecoming queen, she raced back to the locker room and didn't even tell her teammates, according to the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

"I don't know why," Amat said to the paper. "I didn't think that was important. The game was more important to me at the time."

Even after completing one of the more epic nights imaginable for a high schooler, Amat had no time to celebrate. As student treasurer, she had to be back at school early the next morning to help set up for the homecoming dance. (As if colleges weren't drooling over a student-athlete like this already, did we mention she's also a 4.0 student?)

Just to put Amat's feat into perspective: The Philadelphia Eagles' field-goal kicker missed both a 33- and 39-yard attempt in the Eagles' game against the San Francisco 49ers this past weekend. And he hadn't just been named homecoming queen less than an hour before his two blown kicks, either.

No word yet as to whether Eagles' coach Andy Reid has reached out to Amat with a contract offer. (Kidding.)
