We’ve written a bunch of stories about the impact of the federal stimulus law on nation’s classrooms, in teaching, data use, and other areas. But the Obama administration is also hoping that the $787 billion law will have a potentially transformative effect on schools in another way: how they generate and use power.
This week, we explore the stimulus-funded efforts to support new renewable energy, particularly solar-powered projects, as well as energy efficiency. In communities like Silver City, N.M. and Salt Lake City, the goal is to increase awareness of renewable energy, and save money—no small thing during these tough financial times.
