Just a note about some beat changes we’ve made here on edweek.org.
After about a decade covering teachers and the teaching profession, and a 10-month stint in Michigan for the prestigious Knight-Wallace fellowship, our revered veteran reporter Stephen Sawchuk is moving over to the curriculum beat. For the foreseeable future, you’ll be able to find him on the Curriculum Matters blog (though he may continue to post sporadically here on Teacher Beat).
And I’ll be switching over to this blog—in a sense coming back to my roots. I spent my early EdWeek career as the associate editor for Education Week Teacher, and periodically contributing to Teacher Beat. Prior to that I was a special education teacher and reading specialist.
I’ve spent the last three years writing about curriculum and instruction—covering everything from how to teach algebra using “The Martian” to why the Common Core State Standards left out cursive writing. Looking forward to jumping back into writing stories on teacher evaluation, unions, professional development, preparation and other policy issues that affect the more than 3 million individuals standing in front of U.S. classrooms each day.
