New Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton plans to lobby U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan for another chance at a Race to the Top grant, according to this Star-Tribune story. In the article, Dayton says that since “only two states” won grants last year, “there should be plenty of funds still available.”

Now, granted, I was away on maternity leave for five months, but I’m pretty sure all of the money has been given away. And I’m pretty sure there ended up being 12 winners in all, and not just two.

Perhaps the Minnesota governor is hopeful, as is the U.S. Department of Education, that Congress will give the go-ahead for a Round 3 of this competition as part of the as-yet-unfinished fiscal 2011 federal budget process?
